Ekhof theatre

Ekhof schloss (palace) theatre was constructed by Duke Frederick I of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg in 1683. The theater was reserved solely for members of the court (bourgeoisie were excluded). The theatre wings were moved by ropes and pulley machines. Two trap doors were machine driven. Wind machines and rolling thunder machines were also used.
